30 November 2009

Day 86 and beyond.

I did finish my project, and successfully (at least by my own standards). I really did go 90 days without repeating an outfit -- and then some. In fact, I've only repeated three outfits from the experiment since I stopped taking photos. But life interfered right after my trip to Missouri -- overwhelming job duties and computer issues -- that kept me from keeping the last leg up to date on the website. For that I apologize.

I learned a lot over the last few months. I learned that I can get by with fewer clothes than I thought possible -- and I only bought a couple of shirts from the thrift store and one clearance cardigan sweater during this whole time. I also got rid of two and a half garbage bags full of clothes that I didn't want to wear, which was liberating in and of itself. I also became completely desensitized to seeing myself in photos, which is maybe the most important aspect of this whole project. I'm no longer a shock to my own eyes. I'm just another person on film -- and that sort of emotional freedom from self-hatred was exactly what I wanted.

I declare this a success. On to the next thing...

Day 85: Heading home.

  • Everything is remixed.

Leaving for the airport, dappled in morning sun. Sometimes I really miss the country.

Day 84: Perfect weather.

  • Everything is remixed except...
  • Black tam, knitted by me.
  • Maroon tights, WeLoveColors.com.

This sort of day is why October is usually awesome in Missouri. It had been unseasonably cold, but not today.

Day 83: Chickens.

  • Everything is remixed.

These chickens are totally stealing the show here.

  • Everything is remixed.

I didn't realize my shirt was all wonky there. Oops!

Day 81: Travel weary.

  • Everything is remixed...
  • Except the grey tights, Target.
This is after the plane and a trip to the Nelson-Atkins Museum. I was worn out, and I forgot to tell my photo-taker to make sure my feet were in the frame...

Day 80: Long day.

  • Everything is remixed.

We're leaving to visit my family in Missouri tomorrow, and I had a ton to get done today...

Day 79: Summer again.

  • Everything remixed, except...
  • Green surplice top, thrifted.

It's completely hot and humid again. Jeez.

12 October 2009

Day 78: Subversive.

  • Everything remixed, except...
  • Mary Janes, Earth.

I look like such a nice office drone...until you notice the dangling skeleton necklace. And then you wonder.

Labels:

11 October 2009

Day 77: Chilly.

  • Blue hoodie, Wal-Mart last year.
  • Grey t-shirt, Old Navy, remixed.
  • Black skirt, remixed.
  • Black velvet sneakers, Simple.

I went shoe shopping yesterday. These sneakers are so much more comfortable than Converse, and supposedly "green." So, suck it, hipsters!

Labels:

10 October 2009

Day 76: Crooked.

  • Red cardigan, Alloy clearance.
  • Black and white print tank, remixed.
  • Black skirt, sewn by me, remixed.
  • Danskos, remixed.

My necklace and my sweater are crooked. My new haircut appears to be crooked, but actually isn't -- I overslept and didn't have time to fix it, so it was all wonky. But it's a fantastic haircut -- thank goodness.

Day 75: Ch-ch-ch-changes.

  • Everything is remixed.

When I left the house it was almost 90 degrees, but when I got to work it was at least 15 degrees cooler. It made me worry that I might flash freeze like a mammoth, which is a persistent neurotic thought I have. (Thanks a lot, Art Bell and Whitley Strieber.) Also, I am not being tormented by a supernatural entity; the white artifact in the picture is part of the tripod.

Day 74: The last hot day?

  • Everything is remixed.

I understand a cool front is coming. I am so ready for that.

Labels:

Day 73: Faulty memory.

  • Kimono sleeve cardigan, Torrid clearance.
  • Paisley dress, sewn by me, remixed.
  • Purple shoes, remixed.

I honestly can't remember if I've worn this cardigan yet or not.

Labels:

06 October 2009

Day 72: Jaded.

  • Scroll print cardigan, Alloy, remixed.
  • Purple tank top, sewn by me.
  • Capris, Lane Bryant, remixed.
  • Tevas, remixed.

This was the first knit top I've made without a serger in a long time. I guess I've still got the chops, though the pattern I used was a little wonky.

Day 71: Fortitude.

  • Everything is remixed. Again!

I look like I'm doing a half-assed ballet pose, sort of. Didn't mean to. Hmm.

  • Everything is remixed.

I'm really starting to enjoy that single bullet point. Also, it save typing. Hah!

Day 67: Bright is alright.

  • Everything remixed.

There is purple in the scarf, so the shoes aren't as random as they seem. I really love that scarf.

Labels:

30 September 2009

Day 66: Plaid? Just a tad.

  • Green cardigan, Torrid, remixed.
  • Orange plaid surplice dress, Silhouettes Outlet a while back.
  • Grey Docs, remixed.

I went through an orange thing last year. It passed, but I kept this dress. And check it out -- I am not wearing any black today. That almost never happens...

Labels:

29 September 2009

Day 65: Simplicity.

  • Favorite silk scarf, thrifted, remixed.
  • Black v-neck t-shirt, thrifted.
  • Denim skirt, Old Navy, remixed.
  • Medieval reproduction shoes, purchased at the Renaissance Festival years ago.

I completely forgot I had this shirt. I got it with a specific sewing purpose in mind, and found it in my fabric box this week. I had lost my enthusiasm for the original project, so now I have a nice new (to me) shirt. And the shoes are ridiculous-looking, I know -- but they're so comfortable that I still wear them sometimes.

Day 64: Not a trick.

  • Green cardigan, Torrid, remixed.
  • Black dress, thrifted, remixed.
  • Green tights, Target, remixed.
  • Danskos, remixed.

I admit that this is almost the same as a previous outfit, but I checked -- and it was a different dress. Whew. I am actually starting to run out of combinations...gulp.

  • Leopard cardigan, remixed. (Understatement.)
  • Black gathered-detail tank, Old Navy, remixed.
  • White camisole, Old Navy.
  • Dickies denim Bermuda shorts, Torrid, remixed.
  • Tevas, remixed.

Not pictured: Desire for hash browns. But it was definitely present.

  • Green cardigan, Old Navy clearance.
  • Turquoise t-shirt, Avon, possibly remixed.
  • Grey camisole, Old Navy, remixed.
  • Black skirt, sewn by me, remixed.
  • Tevas, remixed.

I got this sweater in the middle of the summer, and this is the first time it's been cool enough to wear it. It's a really soft cotton -- I think it will become a favorite.

Day 60: Suddenly autumn Thursday.

  • Black cardigan, Target, remixed.
  • Print tank, Roaman's (I think), remixed.
  • Black camisole, Old Navy, remixed.
  • Denim gauchos, thrifted, remixed.
  • Black strappy shoes, remixed.

It was suddenly Autumn today. I hope it lasts. Also, we're two-thirds of the way through this experiment...

Day 59: Airport Wednesday.

  • Vintage scarf, Etsy.
  • Gathered neck t-shirt, thrifted.
  • Polka dot skirt, thrifted, remixed.
  • Danskos, remixed.

I had to go pick up a friend at the airport, so the scarf is an homage to all the friendly flight attendants who have brought me drinks through the years.

Day 58: French-inspired Tuesday.

  • Scarf, thrifted, remixed.
  • Black on black striped top, thrifted.
  • Denim pencil skirt, Old Navy, remixed.
  • Danskos, remixed.

Let's see, I have a scarf knotted just so, a horizontally striped top, and a denim* skirt -- all I'm missing is a baguette. Or a beret. Shoot, I have a beret, too! Ah, well...next time.

*Denim originally came from Nimes in France -- hence the name.

Day 57: Another rumpled Monday.

  • Scroll-print cardigan, Alloy clearance, remixed.
  • Green Swiss dot sundress, Alight.com a long time ago.
  • Danskos, remixed.
Like many garments from Alight.com, this dress has always been a little "delicate." One of the straps broke the first time I wore it, for instance -- but I've kept it repaired. I think it may be about time to retire it, though. I don't wear it very often now...

Day 56: Another sleepy Sunday.

Red print bandana, thrifted, remixed.
Red puff-sleeve cardigan, Torrid clearance last year.
Knit dress, remixed.
Teva flip-flops, remixed.

My hair is ridiculous. And the bandana doesn't really help...though it makes me think of 1987, when I had a similarly terrible haircut. I wore a lot of weird stuff in my hair that year -- but at least I'm not crimping it anymore. Right?

  • Black and white shades, Forever 21 (I think).
  • Crazy print tunic, thrifted, remixed.
  • Black capris, Lane Bryant, remixed.
  • Tevas, remixed.

We're going to have a picnic in the park, and then we're watching the "Buffy" singalong. Wait, did I say "watching"? I mean, we'll be singing along. You know.

  • Purple gathered neck tank top, Old Navy.
  • Black camisole, Old Navy, remixed.
  • Grey skirt, sewn by me, remixed.
  • Purple velvet MJs, remixed.

Going to lunch with my Mom, Grandma, and my Mom's best friend, who's in from out of town.

  • Purple gathered neck t-shirt, Old Navy.
  • Black camisole, Old Navy, remixed.
  • Grey plaid skirt, Fatshionista Friday sale, remixed.
  • Danskos, remixed.

Just another workday...but a long one. Glad to be home. I don't think I have worn this shirt this whole time...weird.

Day 51: Purple people eater.

  • Leopard print cardigan, reeeeeeeeemixed.
  • Black knit dress, thrifted, remixed.
  • Burn-your-retinas-purple tights, WeLoveColors.com last year.
  • Danskos, remixed.

Yes, I have worn that cardigan three days in a row. And that's fine. Also, I love these tights. They're a searing, unforgettable purple, which is exactly what you need sometimes. They fit incredibly well, with one caveat: The waistband does come up to just under my bra. However, it doesn't roll -- at all. I've gotta say, the newish lycra-added plus size line at We Love Colors is absolutely worth the price.

Day 50: Late for work = FAIL.

I completely forgot to take the picture today. I dashed out the door, had a super long day, and found myself in pajamas before I realized what had happened. My bad.

I wore:
  • Leopard print cardigan, Alloy, remixed.
  • Black embroidered detail tank, remixed.
  • Green lace detail camisole, Old Navy.
  • Black Dickies trousers, remixed.
  • Grey and black Teva mary janes, remixed.

I am wearing that cardigan almost every day now. I don't know why. I mean, I like it -- but I have others. It's a mystery.

Day 49: Lather, rinse, repeat.

  • Leopard print cardigan, Alloy, remixed.
  • Lock print dress, B & Lu, remixed.

I hope I'm not losing my momentum. There are still 41 days left. Gulp.

Day 48: So groggy.

  • Red cotton scarf, Maggie's Organics clearance last year.
  • Black and white "t-shirt alternative," sewn by me, remixed.
  • Grey skirt, sewn by me, remixed.
  • Red Tevas, remixed.

This gloomy weather is doing me in. I appreciate the cooler weather, but damn, I need some sunshine. There's a reason I don't live in the Pacific Northwest.

Day 45: Point of no return.

  • Green cardigan, Torrid, remixed.
  • Paisley dress, sewn by me, remixed.
  • Olive tights, Target last year.
  • Danskos, remixed.

I'm halfway through the 90 days of my experiment -- and so far, so good. I have been seriously stumped twice, and tempted to repeat only once. I'm sort of proud of myself. Also, these tights make me think of The Hulk. Sarah SMASH!

  • Wide knitted headband, made by me.
  • Ruffle detail top, Old Navy (altered), remixed.
  • Grey plaid skirt, Fatshionista Friday sale, altered by me.
  • Danskos, remixed.

This skirt is a wool blend, and has been too hot to wear all summer. But it has been cool lately (comparatively), so I decided to break it out early. It was a fitted ankle-length skirt, but I shortened it by taking off the top and using the existing hem.

Day 42/43: Whoops!

I accidentally erased the photos from my camera before I could upload them, mostly because I am a jackass.

But this is what I wore...

Day 42:
  • Cherry print hoodie, thrifted, remixed.
  • White camisole, Old Navy (probably) remixed.
  • The Ugliest Bermuda Shorts Ever, Avenue.
  • Teva flip-flops, remixed.

And those shorts are hideous. I should get rid of them.

Day 43:
  • Silk scarf, thrifted, remixed.
  • Black ribbed tank, Old Navy, remixed.
  • Jeans, thrifted, remixed.
  • Strappy shoes, Payless, remixed.

Didn't have to work, nothing spectacular.

I will do my darnedest not to be such a jackass in the future. (So say we all.)

Day 41: Meow.

"Meow" t-shirt*, Target for Halloween, last year.
Black skirt, sewn by me, remixed.
Teva flip-flops, remixed.

Off to run errands. "Not so funny meow, is it?"

  • London scarf, Muji, remixed.
  • Ruffle top, Old Navy (altered), remixed.
  • Jeans, thrifted, remixed.
  • Strappy shoes, Payless, remixed.

It's only fitting that the outfit I wore on the 40th day was 100% remixed. It was also the first day I really had to consider what to wear -- mostly because I have a massive pile of dirty laundry...

Labels:

Day 39: Off to serve my corporate masters.

  • Black cardigan, Target (at least five years ago).
  • Black and white tank, Woman Within (from that fake "French" collection).
  • Jeans skirt, Old Navy, remixed (for the billionth time).
  • Grey Doc Martens, eBay, remixed (and awesome, if I do say so).

I took this when I was really dreading work. Hence the expression. The bad hair is unrelated.

Day 38: Polka dot frenzy.

  • Polka dot scarf, Target in 2005.
  • Black split neck shirt, thrifted, remixed.
  • Pink camisole, Old Navy.
  • Polka dot skirt, thrifted, remixed.
  • Danskos, remixed.

Polka dots always cheer me up for some reason. (And that is not the same camisole from Monday -- I have two of them. *wink*)

Day 37: Punk rock secretary.

  • Red zebra print shirt, sewn by me.
  • Black camisole, Old Navy, remixed.
  • Black skirt, sewn by me.
  • Tevas, remixed.

There's something about this fabric that inspires "my precioussssss" type covetousness.

First of all, I got into a terrible bidding war over this fabric on eBay. It's red knit with little zebras all over it, and all I could think about was the kids' joke: "What's black and white and red all over? A zebra with a sunburn!" I had to, had to have it. And paid far too much for it as a result. Then it got worse when my Grams put the bad mojo on me. She saw the fabric and decided she wanted a shirt from it, and she almost always gets her own way. Well, I told her "No way!" and very carefully drafted a simple cap sleeve shirt with my measurements...except somehow, it didn't fit. At all. Despite "measuring twice and cutting once." She jinxed me, man! And the shirt fit her perfectly, of course -- so she got her way. I just barely had enough to make a second shirt for me -- but I did, and here it is.

Quite a story, am I right?

  • Hot pink camisole, Old Navy.

I am sort of in love with this new scarf. Shallow, but true.

Day 33: Shiny with sunscreen.

  • Floral print cardigan, Alloy clearance.
  • Black knit dress, thrifted, remixed.
  • Red Tevas, remixed.
Though this is the first time I've worn this during my experiment, this is an often-repeated, favorite outfit. It's something that looks nice enough for the office while still being extremely comfortable, and useful during all but the coldest weather (which is rare in Houston).

Day 32: The ugliest trousers.

  • Silk scarf, thrifted, remixed.
  • Black empire tank, Rainbow, remixed.
  • Horrifying denim gauchos, Lane Bryant, but thrifted.

Look, I know they're hideous. They're not flattering in any way, or stylish. But they fit so nicely and wear like iron -- I just can't give them up.

Day 31: A hint of sunshine.

  • Grey t-shirt, Old Navy.
  • Yellow camisole, Old Navy.
  • Black skirt, sewn by me, remixed.

I think of the camisole as a little ray of sunshine peeking out from behind a grey t-shirt cloud. But I am a little bit batshit crazy.

Day 30: Teenybopper catalogs and me.

  • Splatter shirt, Alloy clearance.
  • Black camisole, Old Navy remixed (don't worry, I have like 4 of these).
  • Denim skirt, Old Navy, remixed.
  • Danskos, remixed.

I got three compliments today. People really liked the shirt, for some reason. I do order from Alloy sometimes, but I feel silly about it. I'm well into my 30s, so I think sometimes that I should probably stop dressing like a teenager. But they started making "youthful" clothes that fit me...so...I'm just going to order them sometimes. It's not a crime.

And hey! We're a third of the way through the 90 days -- and I haven't even broken a sweat.

  • Black and white silk scarf, thrifted.
  • Black knit wrap top, Maggie's Organics on clearance.
  • Jeans, remixed.
  • Birks, remixed.
  • Angst, constant, remixed.

I lightened this picture to show some of the lovely drape of the top, but alas, it was for naught. With the organic cotton top and the Birkenstocks, I should have titled this "Dirty Hippie." Also, I can't believe it's been more than 25 days since I wore that scarf, because it's my favorite.

  • Black Dickies trousers, Dickies Girl, old.
  • Tevas, remixed.

This is what an allergy attack looks like. (The face, not the outfit. I've never dressed an allergy attack, of course.) I'm also wearing a little felt flower in my hair, but it did nothing to cheer me up, really. Sigh.

Day 22: Pious, demure, or sleepy?

  • Purple cardigan, Torrid, remixed.
  • Paisley dress, sewn by me, remixed.
  • Black Danskos, remixed.

Here's where the fun starts: I've worn all of these pieces, but not together. "Endless Separates" is the title of the blog for a reason. I thought long and hard about which self-imposed rules I would use for this project, and I decided to keep it pretty simple. Any combination of items not seen in a previous post is fair game -- particularly since my clothes storage space is pretty small. So there you have it.

Also, why is my hair sticking up on the side like that? This haircut is total rubbish, I swear.

Day 21: Dreaming of French toast.

  • Black and white peasant top, sewn by me.
  • Dickies denim bermuda shorts, Torrid clearance last year.
  • Red sandals, remixed.

The top is a strange melding of the Hot Patterns BoHo-De-luxe Peasant Top and the Simplicity #3835 Built By Wendy "t-shirt alternative," which does not go to my size. I love the fabric, which you can barely see (of course). It looks like zebra print at first glance, but on closer inspection it's really more like the whirls of fingerprints...so I refer to it as my "CSI" shirt.

Day 20: Tea with Miss Tanzy.

  • Monsteress Tea Party t-shirt, Diesel Sweeties for Halloween a couple of years ago.
  • Denim pencil skirt, Old Navy, remixed.
  • Teva MJs, remixed.

I know the graphic is hard to see, but it depicts various female monters drinking tea, including a werewolf and a mummy. I really enjoy having people over for tea, and Miss Tanzy is the best. We had cucumber sandwiches and played Scrabble...

Day 19: Not the blues, but still pretty blue.

  • Leopard print cardigan, Alloy, remixed.
  • Black camisole, Target, remixed.
  • Blue knit dress, Old Navy.
  • Teva flip-flops, remixed.

I worked from home again, and I was tempted to call this "Nightgown alternative," but I figured the joke wouldn't fly. I threw on the cardigan because I was on the way to the pet store for cat food, and it is always cold in there for some reason.

Day 18: Pajama alternative.

  • Mystery t-shirt from Diesel Sweeties.
  • Black yoga pants, Wal-Mart in 2004 or so.
  • Black Teva flip-flops, remixed.

I am working from home today, hence the post title and the emphasis on comfort. Added bonus: I won't have to change my clothes when I am ready to work out later. This is a win-win thing.

The t-shirt features, as best I can tell, a dead wolf floating in space. It was one of those things where you pay a tiny amount, state your size, and they send you a random t-shirt. I kept this one because "dead wolf floating in space" is just about as random as it gets -- and quite a conversation starter.

Day 17: Lock it up.

  • Purple cardigan, Torrid clearance last year.
  • Grey knit lock print dress, B & Lu -- brand spankin' new*.
  • Black Danskos, remixed.

I normally wear a lot of separates (hence the name of the blog), but I've worn two dresses in two days -- both from the same company. I know B & Lu has its critics (and I've been one of them from time to time), they really do have some great dress options.

I needed to wear something that would work both for work and for going to a show later in the evening. However, polyester knit and hot, hot venues do not mix. I felt like I was wrapped in plastic wrap all night. (And I know better. Cotton is our friend. Sigh.) But the show was really good...

Day 15: Workaday Sith.

  • Grey polka-dot scarf, remixed.
  • Black button detail tunic, Old Navy clearance two winters ago, altered by me.
  • Dark red floods, thrifted (Lane Bryant brand, I think).
  • Black Danskos, remixed.

That tunic had hideous "lantern" sleeves, which I removed and replaced with tiny ruffles (that you can't see very well). I think the pants were meant to be capris, as many plus size clothing manufacturers seem to be under the impression that all fat people are over 6 feet tall. (For the record, I am 5'3" -- short, but not that short.)

(Not pictured: light saber, sweeping black cloak.)

Day 14: Basically basic.

  • Cotton v-neck t-shirt, Avon. (Really.)
  • Grey skirt, remixed.
  • Teva Mush flip-flops.
My Mom got me the t-shirt in a four pack, so yes, I have four of these in different colors. Also, I am starting to seem like some sort of stealth Teva ad -- but they're just really comfortable shoes, I swear.

Day 13: London Calling.

  • London map scarf, Muji.
  • Black empire waist tank, Rainbow a long time ago.
  • Denim pencil skirt, Old Navy clearance ($6, crazy).
  • Teva sandals, remixed.
I love the fact that I've been to London, but the scarf is from Japan...

Day 12: Paisley, and Lots of It.

  • Paisley dress, BurdaStyle Anda, altered and sewn by me.
  • Red Tevas, remixed.
Super-simple and cool enough for this searing heat. I finished sewing the dress just yesterday afternoon, and although I made the neck too wide (hello, bra strap), I think it turned out okay.

Day 11: You Gotta Have <3.

  • Old Navy clearance t-shirt, embellished by me.
  • Polka dot skirt, another souvenir from San Francisco, thrifted in the Mission.
  • Red Teva sandals, remixed.
  • Polka dot barrette (unseen), Forever 21.

The heart on the shirt was sort of inspired by Tim Burton's Voodoo Girl, and also by a fake voodoo doll I made at a craft party a while back. I would prefer that no one stick pins in my shirt, though -- particularly while I am wearing it.

Day 10: Hidden Purple Agenda.

  • Paisley headband, made by me.
  • Black split neck t-shirt, thrifted in 2003 or so.
  • Purple camisole, Old Navy.
  • Grey twill skirt, Simplicity 9583 sewn by me.
  • Purple velvet mary janes, Chinatown souvenir from San Francisco.

I will be very happy when this awful haircut grows out. In the mean time, maybe I should make a couple more of those headbands. It seems to corral the mess nicely...

Day 9: Variation on a Theme.

  • Scroll print cardigan, Alloy clearance.
  • Black gathered detail tank, Old Navy.
  • Jeans, remixed and rolled up.
  • Strappy shoes, Payless last year.

This is almost exactly the outfit I wore last Tuesday, I see now -- except that only the jeans are actually the same. (And yes, that tank is the same model as the lavender one from last week.) I got the shoes in San Francisco last year, and they are by far the most comfortable shoes I have ever had from Payless.

I work in two different offices (depending on what day it is), and they have very different dress codes -- I think that's becoming apparent, too.

Day 8: Down to Business.

  • Striped scarf, Target long ago.
  • Grey t-shirt, Old Navy.
  • Hot pink camisole, Old Navy.
  • Black twill skirt, Simplicity 9583.
  • Black Dansko mary janes, Sierra Trading Post last year.

I look very stern, don't I?

I've had some work stress lately. The scarf was purchased specifically to wear to a job interview several years ago. I got the position, but it was a terrible place to work and I only stayed about a year. I sometimes wear this scarf specifically because I am stressed at work, to remind me that it's not as bad as that job was.

The skirt is one of my favorite patterns (though it's old, and probably out of print) -- I've used it at least three times, partly because I like the front seam detail (which you can't see, curse the shitty camera), and partly because I altered it for my swayback and am too lazy to alter a new pattern so precisely. Hah!

Day 6: Studied Indifference.

  • Cherry print hoodie, thrifted.
  • Black camisole, Target (very old).
  • Denim skirt, Old Navy last year.
  • Trusty red Teva sandals, remixed.

Lots of errands to do...

Day 4: Summer Layers.

  • Elephant print silk scarf, purchased as a costume piece from an import store in 1998 and forgotten in a storage box until last year(!).
  • Black tank, Old Navy.
  • Teal camisole, Target clearance a good while ago.
  • Black denim Dickies capri pants, Torrid clearance last year.
  • Grey Doc Martens, eBay.
Simple and comfortable for a long day...

Day 3: "Lavender Lady."

  • Very nice scarf that you can't really see, thrifted.
  • Grey cardigan, Torrid clearance.
  • Lavender top with shirred detail that you can't see, Old Navy last year.
  • Grey camisole, Old Navy.
  • Black capri pants, Lane Bryant Outlet last year.
  • Teva sandals, Sierra Trading Post.

Another thing you can't see is that I'm saving for a better camera, you know, one that maybe shows details.

I have three of these tops in different colors. They had an elastic casing bubble bottom which made them sort of awful, but it was nothing my seam ripper couldn't handle. They really drape nicely without that -- a vast improvement.

Day 2: Creepy Compliment.

  • Leopard print cropped cardigan, Alloy clearance.
  • Black ribbed tank, Old Navy a loooong time ago.
  • Jeans, thrifted (but I think they're a Target brand).
  • Ancient Birkenstocks, source forgotten, for extra crunchy goodness.
  • Favorite black bead necklace, probably Target, can't remember.

My boss complimented this outfit. That kind of scared me. I don't think she's ever complimented me before. The paranoia, it tingles. And inspires strange, quizzical looks on my face, apparently.

Day 1: Office Tired.

  • Grey dot scarf, thrifted on Saturday.
  • Black knit dress, thrifted years ago.
  • Red tights, We Love Colors (cut off by me).
  • Teva mary janes, I cannot recall.

This is pretty boring. But I was running late this morning, and afraid that it would be extra hot in the office today. It doesn't look like much, but this dress is magical. I've had it for at least six years -- and it has fit me at every size between 14 and 22. I shouldn't admit this publicly, but I owned it for two years before I figured out it was a maternity dress. Let that be a lesson to all of us with narrow shoulders and ample hips. Hah!

Day 0: Laundry Day.

  • Favorite "housedress," probably from Woman Within (can you believe it?) and possibly intended to a be a bathing suit cover up or something.
  • Teva sandals, online clearance.
  • Paisley scarf, thrifted.
This was my test shot from Sunday, which I did not intend to post at the time. But apparently I was looking sort of Bohemian for chore day? Interesting.
