Day 86 and beyond.

I did finish my project, and successfully (at least by my own standards). I really did go 90 days without repeating an outfit -- and then some. In fact, I've only repeated three outfits from the experiment since I stopped taking photos. But life interfered right after my trip to Missouri -- overwhelming job duties and computer issues -- that kept me from keeping the last leg up to date on the website. For that I apologize.

I learned a lot over the last few months. I learned that I can get by with fewer clothes than I thought possible -- and I only bought a couple of shirts from the thrift store and one clearance cardigan sweater during this whole time. I also got rid of two and a half garbage bags full of clothes that I didn't want to wear, which was liberating in and of itself. I also became completely desensitized to seeing myself in photos, which is maybe the most important aspect of this whole project. I'm no longer a shock to my own eyes. I'm just another person on film -- and that sort of emotional freedom from self-hatred was exactly what I wanted.

I declare this a success. On to the next thing...

Day 69 / Day 70.

I was pretty much sick all weekend. I didn't leave the house, and I wore pajamas the whole time. I've decided that we're going to implement the snow day principle here. I think there was at least one other day during the project where I was sick and didn't get dressed, so I'm going to tack some extra days at the end, snow day style, to make up for it.

(See, for those of you who don't know, schools that use snow days build a certain number of them into their yearly schedule, and if they don't use them all, you'll get out of school that number of days early. However, if you use too many...you will have extra days at the end of the year, which is a serious bummer when you're 7. Trust me on that.)

More publishing problems.

Blogger was broken, and then fixed, and then broken again. Yay! I have still been taking pictures, of course, but I have a backlog to publish...as it takes about 1.5 HOURS EACH to load them.

For fuck's sake, Blogger. Really?

I will attempt to catch up tomorrow. Thanks...

Blogger issues.

The Blogger photo upload isn't working correctly right now, so I would expect some delays and some weirdness regarding photos. (The last two posts' photos disappeared this morning, for instance, and I had to republish.)

Apologies...

Day 7: "Not Pictured."

Truth is, I just forgot. It was just a chore day, so nothing outrageous was worn.

I'm beginning to see patterns in what I wear already, though. I really never thought about how many scarves I wear, for instance. Or the fact that I wear a knit camisole almost every frickin' day.

Interesting...

Day 5: Sick.

No photo, although I am wearing some super stylin' (snort) Curious George pajama pants -- I am sick today. I did not expect to be derailed quite so early in this project. But it's just a bug, not the sort of sick-for-months thing I had last winter, so no worries...

Intro.

For various reasons (that I'll get to in time), I have decided to start a small personal fatshion project. I think it's important to be "publicly fat," and to help normalize the idea that fat people are, well, people. Also, I like clothes, and I have a bad habit of wearing the same outfits time and again.

I have a million reasons to procrastinate on starting this project -- everything from a lack of time to a fear of public humiliation, not to mention a truly repulsive haircut (worst since 1987, I kid you not). I also have an inadequate and fairly shitty camera. You know. The deck is stacked against me here. I intended to start this project January 1st, but a protracted illness kept me from doing so.

So here we are. I'm never going to start this unless I jump in and just...start. I'll get to my rules, and the wheres and whys of this later.
